The rehabilitation process after overstretching, straining, spraining or tearing a ligament can sometimes be painful and overwhelming. A brace can be an effective way to relieve pain and shorten recovery time.

Our range of lightweight, comfortable and low-profile braces make it easier to resume normal activity, helping to gradually restore strength and function while protecting you from re-injury.

A brace can also help manage the discomfort of arthritis, reducing pain by shifting your weight off the most damaged portion of arthritic joints.

More about bracing

Braces are used to help control movement and stabilise an injured joint. This control can take the form of immobilising the joint, restricting movement to a certain direction, assisting movement or reducing weight on the joint. They can be a suitable form of treatment for anyone with any of the symptoms mentioned above.

As well as being used for ligament injuries to provide stability and reduce swelling, they can also be used to alleviate the pain of arthritis by reducing the pressure on arthritic joints.

There are a number of different types of bracing:

Used to protect uninjured joints from injury, or joints that have previously suffered an injury from re-injury. They are often used by athletes and players of contact sports to reduce frequency and severity of injuries. Additionally, by skiers to prevent injury during skiing.

Used to limit potentially harmful movements in joints after a recent injury or surgery. In doing so, they prevent joints from recurring injuries or any movement that might slow the repair of the joint during the recovery period.

Provides support to already injured joints, creating stability that reduces the likelihood of further injury.

There are also several different designs of knee brace:

  • Unloader brace for osteoarthritis
  • Patellofemoral brace
  • Hinge brace
  • ACL brace
  • Knee immobilizer
  • Neoprene sleeve

Frequent Questions

This depends on the type of brace you are given. It is usually only advised to wear the brace when you are active.

Most braces are needed for some time, depending on the type and severity of the injury.

Whether you should be removing the brace at all will depend on the type of brace and type of injury.

Improper use of a brace could cause discomfort or damage to the joint, so be sure to always follow your consultant’s instructions.
